Comparing yourself to others

You may have heard of the All Blacks, New Zealand's national rugby team. Even if you haven't, you've probably heard of something called sport. Well, the New Zealand All Blacks have the highest win percentage for any professional team in sport. 77%. That means they win more than three out of every four games. It also means other teams are focused on beating them.

All Black coach Steve Hansen said it well. There's no point focusing on beating the All Blacks. Not because he's proud of his team and he thinks it's useless to even try, no way. It's because once you do, you have to focus on beating the other teams too, and then maintaining that win percentage.

Other teams often focus on beating the All Blacks. What happens then is that they put out their best performance against the All Blacks, so the All Blacks are constantly facing the strongest version of these other professional teams. This only puts fuel on the fire and makes the All Blacks stronger. Smart teams, though, like Ireland, have done the right thing and focused on their own game.

There's really no point in comparing yourself to others. Especially with SNS where people only put their best foot forward, or when we see a 'successful' person, we haven't seen all the times they've failed or struggled. Best to just put your head down and focus on the task at hand. Make sure you're not doing it to impress anyone else though.
