Do Yourself A World of Good

Get away from the constant barrage of notifications of the modern age

Staring at the screen, looking for answers. Doing ‘the rounds’.

Facebook.

Twitter.

Email.

Back to Facebook. I haven’t looked at my Twitter feed for, oh, 40 seconds now. Let’s see what’s going on.

Nothing.

Nothing is going on.

Everyone’s favourite richest person in the world, Elon Musk, once lamented how these tech giants take the best talent and use it to see how we can get humans staring at screens longer, rather than on working towards solving earth’s greatest problems.

On that, I agree with you, Elon.

It’s why concepts like Deep Work, distraction-free time to just get things done, is becoming more and more valuable. Some would even call it a superpower (myself included).

It’s also why meditation and getting out into nature, activities designed at simply putting us in the moment, are so valuable.

They take us away from the ‘real’ world, and put us into the real world.

They are our reminder that there is more to life than a constant barrage of notifications, despite what the tech giants would have you believe.

And it’s something we must never forget.

Don’t just sit there. Get outside and get moving. Not only will it get you content for the ‘gram, both in terms of videos or photos you can take, but also the thoughts that come along with it, it will do you a world of good.

And god only knows we need one.

ENJOYED THIS? HAVE MORE.
