Master Hoshino and the Seven Yamabushi

Tim Bunting Kiwi Yamabushi at Yamadera in Yamagata Prefecture

I’m sorry to non-Japanese speakers but I’ve just shared an event I’ve been invited to talk at this weekend. Called Master Hoshino and the Seven Yamabushi, I believe in homage to the Akira Kurosawa masterpiece, the theme revolves around connection. Connection of humans and nature (which are the same thing), connection of communities and communities, connection of humans and communities, and connection of humans and humans.

It’s tough right now. These are by no means normal times, but this gives us a chance to try abnormal approaches to things that may just turn out better. I for one am enjoying working online, although the face to face contact we’re used to may be limited, which has serious effects on social creatures like us.

What this means is that we have to try that much harder than normal (there’s that word again) to stay connected. But remember, this connection is not just between us, but also between communities, and between us and nature.

As Yamabushi it is our job to connect, which is why I implore you to do your part and reach out to people more often. Let them know you’re thinking of them, a simple message suffices. And for those able to understand, join us this weekend 🙂
