Which skills will you develop?

The other day I wrote that I may have to break someone’s heart by turning down a job offer. Turns out I don’t have to. I’m just going to make it so I only do the essential part of that job, and outsource the rest. That way I can still be a part of solving the problem that I am fully on board with, and I can also develop a different type of skill, people skills.

I haven’t really had the chance to do something like this before. I want to do the best job possible, so I’m taking extra time to make sure everything goes smoothly. I know what the task entails, and I know who has the skills to do it, it’s just a matter of linking the two.

If I had kept the job to myself, I would have just developed the same skills I always use. Now I have a chance of developing a different range of skills, which hopefully will increase the value I am able to give the world.

Along the way I’m hoping the people who take the job also see it as an opportunity to grow themselves, and that we can all grow together. This may mean I have to share some secrets of the trade, but it’s all in the name of producing a superior product for the client. Which is to say, I’m excited! This could lead to more such work in the future if it goes well 🙂
