Your last performance

‘You’re only as good as your last performance’, or so the sports analogy goes. But this phrase has implications in places other than the sport world, say, for example, in creative endeavors too.

I’ve been trying to get some traction on YouTube, for example, but every time the videos seem to fall flat compared to my expectations, and it can be a let down if I’m being honest. But I then tell myself I’m in it for the long run.

Which brings me back to the original point. If you’re only as good as your last performance, you need to make all your performances as if it’s your last. You need to put in a lot of effort to make it as good quality as possible, with the caveat that you don’t break your back in the process.

Like in many domains, it’s the quality that resonates on YouTube, as it should, and you’re just not reaching it as of yet. Keep challenging yourself, put in your best performance each time, and you’ll find you grow and grow. And ultimately, your last performance gets better and better.
