Acquiring skills by making things

A few years ago I remember telling my computer proficient friend that I wanted to make a website. He told me, find something to make it about. I didn’t have a strong enough thing to make it about at the time so I didn’t get anywhere.

Fast forward to now and I have made a few websites already. If you’re going to make something for the purpose of acquiring a skill, have another purpose too, ie to tell a story or maybe even sell something. That makes it much easier to make than just doing things willy nilly.
