A teacher’s job isn’t to teach

Tim Bunting Kiwi Yamabushi

A teacher’s job isn’t to teach. It’s to facilitate learning by creating the ultimate environment to do so. Compulsory education is a misnomer. Education can’t be forced, so it can’t be compulsory. A learner only learns when they want to learn, just like the saying you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink.

The lesson here is, if you’re a teacher, work on the environment you’re providing. Also, you are your own teacher. Therefore it is your job to facilitate learning by creating the ultimate environment to do so. Set up the environment so that you not only learn what you want to learn, but so that you also come across the things that you might want to learn.
