Automatic Acceptance

Acceptance as a reflex

During Yamabushi training, when your master tells you to do something, you don’t question why. Your response is an instantaneous ’Uketamo’. Before long, the uketamo becomes so natural you feel it before words have even left the master’s mouth.

The sooner you can accept things as a reality, the sooner you can get on with what’s important. Uketamo teaches you that although things might not be as you expected, an almost automatic acceptance will get you a long way at pushing forward, whether that means coming to terms with something, taking something on the chin, or just plain getting used to a new reality.
