Mantra Stephen Dubner goes by

“Be bad, don’t be boring”

This is in regards to acting, apparently, but it’s great advice.

When you’re boring, you either aren’t doing much, or you’re doing the predictable. This can be ok for some people, but being bad at something novel or exciting can teach you so much more, and can also be a hell of a lot more fun too.
