Burnout

Mt. Kinbo in Tsuruoka City in the winter

Burnout sucks. You have to be careful to control your workload or else burnout can creep up on you. I’m in that situation at the moment, and I think I need to take a bit of my own advice. This demands not having too much on your plate in the first place, which means you really need to learn how to say no to things you don’t really want to do.

But if there are things you have said yes to, or if you need to do some things you don’t like in order to achieve a certain goal, you have no choice but to do them. Again, take these on one by one, without ill feeling either. That’s the hard part, but it’s necessary to be able to give your best.

Take it easy. Take breaks, and learn how to relax. Go out into nature. Take a walk. Simply sit down and take the situation in. But most of all, don’t take on too much! Only do what you feel you really need to (keeping the last paragraph in mind).
