Climbing Mt. Chokai every day

Tim Bunting Kiwi Yamabushi

Mr. Kato is a 72-year-old dude who I always see at the pool. His catch phrase is ‘Koe-‘ which is Shonai dialect for ‘this is really tiring’.

Well, I have a lot of respect for this man. He comes at least five times a week, and swims half of Mt. Chokai, so about 1100m. That means in a week, he swims more than I do. At 72.

Today, he told me he really struggled to get to the pool, but he knows that once he’s there, he’ll do his Mt. Chokai. He just tells himself to do a little, as he knows that that’s enough to get him to do his Mt. Chokai.

Keep doing what you’re doing! You’re showing us all up!
