Creative consumption

Which is more important, productivity or creativity? You can make a case for both, but I think we'd agree that being more creative is more beneficial than being more productive.

Our current economy values productivity over anything and it's easy to see why. Money. More productive people lead to more things being made, more things being made lead to more consumption. More consumption leads to more profit.

If you look at it in this way, consumption seems to be one area where we can make a huge difference. If we turn some of our consumption into creativity, we alleviate the demand for productivity, and instead are left with more creativity.

I for one am hoping for such a change. But to do so, we need to make creating things seem even more normal. As if currently stands, people spend a lot of their time consuming on their phones. We need to somehow switch that to creative endeavours.
