Learn to do nothing

Tim Bunting Kiwi Yamabushi

I spent the past few days in Osaka, and was in Tokyo a week ago, so of course I did a bit of people watching.

The people that stood out the most? Those just sitting there doing nothing. It was strange, how dare they sit there and do nothing in this, the Information Age?

But it's only in recent times that we've had such stimulation at our fingertips. You could argue that books and newspapers are the same, but since everyone has a phone, it seems that's all we're doing.

So, of course I tried doing nothing. It was fine, for a while, but then I got the urge to check my phone over and over, even though the internet connection is bad and I knew I'd have to wait to be able to do anything.

Anyway, it was a reminder that it is indeed fine to do nothing. And I think we should do nothing more often too, as a reminder that it's ok to do so.
