Mindful Photography

A tip for more mindful experiences

When I started photography I used to worry a lot about merely capturing the moment rather than actually experiencing it. Even to this day I still have this feeling, and it means if I’m there to take photos, I’m there to take photos. If I’m not, then there’s no camera necessary.

To help with this, print out physical copies of your photos. For every 100 or so photos you take, make a concerted effort to print at least one out. This increases the value of the photos you take, adds permanence, and makes you more aware of the photos you do take.

In theory, at least.

We still have to make an effort to be in the moment, and for the most part that means not even having a camera or photo-taking device at hand. Easier said than done.
