Quick to dismiss: the Uketamo muscle

person standing in pathway

Uketamo is a muscle. When you’ve been practicing it a lot it becomes second nature. The moment you hear that a decision has been made or that something will affect you, it sort of kicks in and you begin the acceptance process, often faster than those around you.

But this can backfire! Sometimes you think a decision is set in stone when it really isn’t, and you don’t push back as much as usual.

When you hear a decision has been made, don’t be quick to dismiss it. Make sure that it certainly has been made before beginning to make any concessions. If you can, make sure the decision is final beyond all doubt before starting the Uketamo process.
