Significantly insignificant

Yesterday I had a realisation that I have in some form or another every once in a while. When you reminisce of times gone by, or even just regret times gone by, sometimes you see just how small those times were.

At the time it feels as if the world is going to end. At the time it feels as if your whole life had led up to the point and that everything will change from then. Well, even if that is true and your life did change at that point, looking back on it with enough time in between and it becomes almost entirely insignificant.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t learn from it, or you should forget it, but that at the time what may seem like the world to you, you find out eventually that it is nothing but a minuscule blip on the surface.

Next time you get worked up over something, take a step back and assess the situation for what it is, and comfort yourself in the fact that that one moment is but one of millions in your life, and it is significantly insignificant. It is up to you to make that moment significant, but it’s also not the end of the world.
