Synchronous and asynchronous

Tim Bunting Kiwi Yamabushi

Moving to an increasingly online world means moving to an increasingly asynchronous world. Technology is enabling us to work at times that are comfortable for us, meaning both night owls and early birds should be happy. Meetings spent updating people on news are no longer necessary, send an email instead. In other words, time spent on tasks that are available asynchronously is better spent on tasks that aren’t.

This also means that prioritizing time to do synchronous things, such as brain-storming in a group, or proper customer service, is more and more important. We have to be able to switch on and be present at these times too, which for people who can’t meet in real life is not always easy.
