Take the initiative.

It goes without saying, but getting away from your ordinary life every once in a while is a pretty good idea. I feel this quite strongly with Japan, at least Yamagata, because there is a set of understandings that aren't really tested until people leave and see a completely different point of view. Some of the people I know are actually scared of going overseas, it's hard to know exactly why this fear exists, but the fact it does is a problem.

Either way, getting away from your everyday life every once in a while gives you perspective that you can very much use in your life. The thing is, you have to have the balls to lead the change when necessary. Take the initiative to lead when things can be different. Other people will react to your actions, meaning you have made them think if just for a bit.
