The reason you do it
If you ever need a motivator, think who not what. The people behind it are the reason you do it.
When I chant as a yamabushi, if I do this, I get chills. It’s like a secret code. It also works when you don’t feel like doing something. If you think about the people you are doing it for, then naturally the motivation flows.
I was listening to a recent Tim Ferriss podcast where Claire Hughes Johnson, the former COO of Stripe and author of Scaling People, mentioned considering the people behind things when going about doing things.
This reminded me exactly of the famous Māori saying:
He aha te mea nui o te ao?
What is the most important thing in the world?
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.
And that’s exactly right.
