Uketamo the future when it is the now. Not now.

To Uketamo the past and to Uketamo the future are two completely different things.

To Uketamo the past is easy, in theory at least. Things have played out in a certain way, and you accept that.

Simple (in theory at least).

But when it comes to Uketamo-ing the future? Well, accepting that you can accept any eventuality is certainly a good thing, but if you’re not careful, it can leave you apathetic.

If you are able to confidently say you will accept anything that comes your way, then you can be perfectly ok without doing much at all.

This is great if you are a full-time monk.

For the rest of us though? We need something to look forward to as a motivating factor to help see us through for the long term. We need a bit of unpredictability to keep us on our toes and keep us in the running.

Being able to accept any future reality is certainly helpful, but it comes with its own limitations and drawbacks we need to be aware of.

A simple way to think about this is to Uketamo the future when it is the now. Not now.
