You and I, we and us

Am I moving forward? Or are we moving forward? It's such a simple thing, but the use of pronouns makes a huge difference in communication. Whenever we're in a group situation, it's important to think as a group, to take initiative as a group, and to take responsibility as a group. One of the best ways to show solidarity for the group is through cognisant use of pronouns. When giving advice as well, you can really make someone feel like you are on their team by using a collective pronoun; you and I versus we and us.

Next time you're in a team meeting or similar, take note of the pronouns used, and if you're part of a team, really think about whose team you're really on.
