Blindly following orders is almost as bad as not working. It breaks my heart seeing new recruits at Japanese companies lined up ready to begin work because I know that they are just going to do what they're told for the foreseeable future, plus I know they aren't going to get paid much too, depending on the job of course, but many of them don't pay too well, and their conditions are bad, ask them to take more than 3 days holiday.

Anyway, I think blindly following orders can be ok when you don't know what you want to do, and your in an experimental stage. That way you can still take something out of the experience that can be used elsewhere, plus it also has the advantage of teaching you what you DON'T want to do. That can help you eliminate a lot of choices down the line.
