Conservatism

Conservatism is selfishness. I don’t mean conservatism in that environmental sense. I mean conservatism in the political sense. If conservatism is about keeping the status quo, then it is about selfishness. Keeping the status quo means you are not thinking about the future life for your children. You are only thinking about yourself and now. This is especially evident in Yamagata prefecture. People here just want to keep things the way they are. This completely ignores reality. Japan is in the middle of an aging society. This means things are going to change whether you like it or not. If you don’t act for the future someone, or something, will. Conservatism means you are leaving everything up to fate. I am of the belief that we should do everything we can to provide a better future for our future generations. Conservatism does not do this. Conservatism is selfishness.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Hi, I’m Tim Bunting AKA the Kiwi Yamabushi, a New Zealander who became a Yamabushi Ascetic in the Dewa Sanzan mountains of north Japan. I’m part of the Yamabushido team, and we host life-altering Yamabushi training on the Dewa Sanzan (website link). People come to us for the ultimate mindfulness experience, to reach the next level, or simply connect with nature and themselves.

I’m on a mission to summit all 100 Famous Mountains of Yamagata Prefecture to spread the splendour of this fabulous location, and in dedication to all those who lost their lives out in nature, including my father.

On my daily blog I post thoughts of a practicing Yamabushi that I hope people can use to better themselves and live as fulfilling a life as possible.
