The bullet points and the politician

In the past few weeks I’ve had four separate occasions where I was interviewed for either radio, a podcast, or today’s one was for people thinking of moving to Sakata (only the podcast was in English).

It helps when you get the questions in advance because obviously you can think about how to answer them first. In preparation though, I like to answer the questions partially but only with bullet points. Doing so helps you answer what you want to answer, but it also leaves room for adaptations. This also helps keep you on your toes while keeping you engaged in the conversation.

The other way to do it of course is like a politician. Simply answer with what you want to talk about. But I leave that for when I really want to make a point, or when I really don’t like what the interviewer is trying to do (e.g. build drama where there is none).
