Cut the excess

black and red typewriter on white table

Besides coming up with ideas, perhaps the hardest part of writing is being strict on yourself when it comes to culling the bad. We feel so proud of what we've created that we forget about the main reason for doing the writing in the first place; creating a narrative for the reader. Excess language is like that friend who feels all silence needs to be filled, or in other words, tits on a bull. Let the moment carry the weight, let the reader fill in the gaps, let the writing do the work. Leave all the excess in the draft.
