Don’t miss the big picture

I'm not a professional photographer by any means, but one thing I've had to learn over and over again when it comes to doing photography in a certain location is to think big then go small. It could just be due to the type of lenses I have that are made for getting maximum Bokeh, meaning you're better to be doing a close-up on something, but I always seem to forget to get a photo of the outside of a location, or something that encapsulates the whole place. I've found this to be the case the past few times I've been out on the mountains, and I've had to resort to taking stills from my video footage, which with the GoPro isn't actually that good (unless the light is right, which it often isn't inside forests).

Think big. Take in the whole picture (literally and figuratively), and only then should you move into the finer details.
