Getting the Ball Rolling
The aim at the start of a new project is to get it off the ground, to get the ball rolling. That's it. Once you've done that, it's about creating systems to keep the ball rolling in the direction you want it to. When more people get on board, they change the systems that push the ball in new directions, often a different direction to that first envisioned. Some people are better at getting the ball rolling, some people are better at keeping it rolling, some people just want to push the ball their own way.
Once the ball is rolling, you have to understand that it's out of your control. It doesn't belong to you, it never really did, but you can still control it to a certain degree with the systems you create, or equally, don't create.
Often there will be walls. If your systems are resolute enough, the ball will go straight through. If not, the ball might take some damage, or it may stop completely. How you react then is up to you. You may find it necessary to get the ball going again, or maybe it's time to start on something new.
So, how do you get the ball rolling? Not by thinking about things, no way. No, you get the ball rolling by taking action! Any action will suffice! Only then can you start building the systems to keep the ball rolling.
