Horses for courses

The recent fiasco with my camera made me think about horses for courses. I was complacent because my Sony camera is really good with low light, so I expected the same from the GoPro. The GoPro is an excellent camera, but it is not suited for lowlight situation.

It was exactly because I am used to the Sony camera that I thought the GoPro would be perfect. I guess I didn’t want to have to carry the Sony. The Sony camera, although it is a mirrorless, is quite heavy with all the lenses and with the battery that runs out really fast it can be a bit of a burden to carry. So I opted for the GoPro. But found out that was a bad idea.

All this means is that I’m going to have to be more thoughtful of what I carry when I’m out shooting. The Sony camera definitely has its uses. It is good at getting excellent shots for example when you want to blur the background zoom in or zoom out, or when you want to change the focal point. I thought the GoPro would be a be and end all, and I was sorely wrong.

It helps to comprehend and understand the weaknesses of every decision, but sometimes you don’t know what that weakness is until you try it. The implications of your choices may not be obvious at the outset but they are implications nonetheless. No point getting your panties tied. Embrace it and move on!!
