How not to feel like an idiot

An episode with my local mechanic

Today I did something that made me feel like an idiot, but I have a feeling I’m not alone in this.

I had been putting off talking to my mechanic for a while now. Not for a mechanical fault, no, to cancel a ¥300 subscription thing I had been roped into. Something along the lines of cheaper oil changes and a few other perks that I never actually took advantage of.

I had tried to cancel this subscription online, to no avail. This was clearly by design, though. That and the small amount bothered me enough to discourage me from cancelling the subscription once and for all.

Either way, that bandaid was ripped off in a few seconds when I went in today. Or, more specifically, I didn’t even need to step inside! The man came up to my car, as they always do, I told him what was up, and that was that!

All it took was about a minute or two of talking, and the shortness of it all made me feel really stupid for putting it off for so long.

Sometimes you just have to suck it up and get on with it. Not for the purpose of getting on with it, but for the purpose of not feeling like an idiot.

Things like this have a habit of getting worse as time goes on. Don’t let it. Rip the bandaid off as soon as you realise there is one.

(Something tells me this might not be the last of it. The staff member was very nonchalant, and didn’t really seem to take much notice of my car’s registration number. I guess we’ll find out in a month or two.)
