Wait for the pests

Birds, animals, and the like only go after crops when they’re good to eat. Which is to say, they only come when you’ve done a good enough job. If you hadn’t, then they wouldn’t come in the first place. Sure it’s a hassle to deal with, but that those pests exist at all is a sure sign that you’re good enough.
