Play the ball, not the bowler

Devon Conway recently made a splash with his double century at Lord’s, and two respectable innings to follow up. Conway embodies a philosophy that I couldn’t have put better myself; play the ball not the bowler.

This is in response to some of the most successful and also longest-working bowlers in the history of the sport, Anderson and to an extent Broad, whose reputation is enough to have you shivering in your whites. But if we’re to have any form of success, we have to put their reputation (added pressure) to the side, and face the ball (the situation) right in front of us, just as Conway does.

Sorry for the cricket analogies, but I think they’re really useful, and I try to make the point about life rather than the obscure sport that is cricket.
