Process or product

Is it about the process? Or the product?

As much as possible, it should be about the process, and the process should be about producing the best product.

For me, the process of making coffee is much more meaningful than the product. Every morning, I put the kettle on, grind up the beans (by hand), and then proceed to pour the boiling water over the beans in a way I find produces a great cup. This process is now a form of meditation for me. The way the bubbles come up through the beans and form a dome, the sound of the coffee dripping into the carafe, the temperature of the handle of the kettle, only just cool enough to touch, it all adds up.

And then there’s the product, a perfectly crafted cup of coffee.
