Repetition and iteration in baking and in life

Tim Bunting Kiwi Yamabushi

Repetition and iteration is important because they allow you to experiment! This year I’ve made scones at least 10 times, and every time I try and do things a slightly different way to see what works. I think I’m nearly there, although today I should have stuck with baking paper and the metal scraper, the shape of the scones is a bit odd (still delicious).

Last week I also made an apple oat loaf for the first time. This introduced a few spices that I hadn’t thought of adding to scones before (I’m going to have to make some mixed spice, doesn’t seem to exist outside the commonwealth), and now my scones are even better!

Yesterday’s bread also made me feel like baking a whole lot more, I felt for a second that I understood why professional bakers love what they do, although I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to do it, at least not full time.

If you have even the slightest inkling to do something, do it! And if you keep at it, you never know you might learn to love it! Just keep experimenting and reiterating to stay on your toes!
