Set up the conditions for creativity

I have talked about it in the past, but setting up the conditions for creativity is an extremely important thing for us as creativity machines. This means being able to do things on a whim, as you never know when the creativity bug will bite.

This morning I had a really strong urge to go and get the remainder of the footage I need for Mt. Kyogakura, so strong was the desire I even got dressed in my mountain gear. But then I decided against it thinking it was probably a little too rash.

It’s only a short hike, well 1 hour or so one way, and it’s close, so if I leave at sunrise I can get back in time for work. If I’m not too tired tomorrow, and if the weather’s as it’s supposed to be I’ll probably go.

This is to say, in my case it would be a good idea to do a bit of research in advance of the mountains that are reachable in a (relatively) short amount of time. Then all I’d need to do is to put together the items on my climbing list, do a little bit of revision, and head out the door.

To be honest, thinking about the mountains to climb over the next few weeks is getting me a bit excited. Autumn is by far the best season for hiking here in Japan. It’s not unbearably hot, there aren’t as many bugs out, and if you get a crisp blue autumn sky that contrasts against the deep reds, oranges, and yellows of the leaves, well I couldn’t think of anywhere I’d rather be.

So, I owe it to myself to make it as easy as possible to be able to get outside, and get the footage and content I need to do a good job of putting this place on the map.
