Sustainability is a ‘do’ a path or way

Mt. Ubagatake in autumn

There are so many areas in which we can be more sustainable but are choosing not to. One thing is obviously choice of car, but I was very happy to see that the top 10 cars in NZ were electric (I think it’s a list curated by some sort of judges or something, so not sales).

I can’t believe how long it took me to realise this, but like Kendo, Judo, and Aikido, Sustainability is a ‘do’, a path or way. Do, 道, is an ongoing thing. There is no end, and it’s about turning up day after day and doing your best to try and master it.

Sustainability fits that bill. No one is expecting people to stop unsustainable practices overnight, but they are expecting you to stop sometime, they are expecting you to at least make an effort. No one is expecting you to be perfect, but when it comes to something like sustainability, it’s worth trying, no?
