Switch on by switching off

It's not so much that you want to be able to focus all the time, it's about being able to focus when it counts. Rest is important too, and if you find yourself trying to focus so you can rest, that might be a bit of an issue.

Get into the habit of switching off by taking time to just be with yourself. Sit down quietly and just enjoy the moment and check in to see how you are feeling.

When meditating, whenever a thought comes into your head, let it flow. Don't dwell on it. I've been doing this for the past few days and it works wonders. I feel I have a much clearer head throughout the day.

When I dwell on things, I get frustrated at my shortcomings, but this exercise in not over focusing on things allows me to more clearly see what I have to do.

By switching off in this way, and doing it regularly, we can learn what we need to do, giving us perspective, and this helps us to switch on when we need it.
