The job interview

photo of women talking to each other

For the past few years, I’ve been trying to get myself into a position where I ‘pick myself’ so to speak. I don’t want to have to go out and look for a job interview, I want to set myself up so that people find me because they want me, not the other way around. However, I understand that this can be a bit naive at times.

So, even if you’re not going for a job, common job interview questions are a great thing to practice. This evening a student of mine was applying for a special program, and we were practicing the types of questions they might be asked during the interview stage. Here are some good ones:

  • What can you offer that someone else cannot?
  • Tell us about a time you felt proud of yourself or your work.
  • Tell us about a time you made a mistake.
  • What advice would you give your (insert younger age here) self? (Unashamedly taken straight from Tim Ferriss)
  • What motivates you?

Ultimately I don’t want to ever have to use these, but you never know what opportunities are on your horizon, and what sort of questions you may need to answer to take them, so it’s handy to have a few answers ready.
