The Sense to Sense
This is the core of Yamabushi training, but by no means must you be a Yamabushi to do so.
The sense to sense is understanding that sometimes all we need is to go out into nature, to let nature do all the work, and to let nature restore us to our true state.
In Yamabushi training we have a form of meditation named ‘tokogatame’. ‘Toko’ means floor, or the ground we stand on. ‘Gatame’ comes from ‘katame’, to harden or solidify.
In Tokogatame, the idea is simply to be in the moment, to solidify your spot on the earth, so to speak. This can be done with open or shut eyes, standing or sitting, or even wandering around. All that’s important is your focus on being in the moment.
This focus on being in the moment is the sense to sense. Those who have done it understand just how powerful this simple exercise can be.
Why not give it a try? All you need to do is to focus on being in the moment, away from distractions, and away from civilization, if you can.
