Why to start your new habit today

clear hour glass on frame

Tomorrow may be too late

If you want to start a new habit, don’t set an arbitrary date in the future. If at all possible, start it today.

Your desire to do things wanes over time, and now might be the time you most desire doing it.

So do it.

By doing the thing now, you also get a feel for it right away. This means you get information on whether or not this thing is for you pretty much as soon as is possible, rather than waiting until an arbitrary date in the future.

That’s why people suggest starting a New Year’s resolution before January first. By then you’ve had a bit of a lead up, you know what to expect, and you know what to do if the sun doesn’t shine on New Year’s Day or you just don’t feel up to it. This is a sure fire way to hit the ground running.
