Abundance of abundance

Since the Second World War, we have been blessed with abundance. Abundance of food, abundance of entertainment, abundance of news, abundance of information, abundance of everything.

An abundance of food leads to an abundance of obesity. An abundance of entertainment leads to an abundance of inattention. An abundance of news leads to an abundance of fear. An abundance of information leads to an abundance of jealousy. An abundance of everything, leads to an abundance of abundance.

We have to realise that our modern world has given us an abundance of things, that our ancestors would never have dreamed of. We have to not only realise this, but respond in kind.

Our bodies haven't had the chance to develop for the modern world, they developed to live in a world where we never knew where our next meal would come from.

I'm not saying we should go back to primitive times. I'm saying we need to be considerate of our actions and ask ourselves whether they are truly necessary or not.

We already have what we need. Everything else is a desire. We don't need to work more hours to buy things we don't need to impress people we don't like. Truer words have never been spoken.

I realise this is quite negative, but I have no intention for that. Rather, I think we need to appreciate what we do have more and the remember to keep everything in moderation.

ENJOYED THIS? HAVE MORE.
