Character Building Moments
I remember when I was about 8 or 9 I had ridden quite far on my bike, at least the furtherest distance I had ever ridden. And of course, I got a puncture. For some reason, I can vividly remember walking all the way back home. I remember getting angry at my dad because he wasn’t there to pick me up, even though he had no idea where I was, and he was probably at work at that time anyway. I just sucked it up, and walked all the way back home. In these moments, after a while you sort of forget why you are sulking because you’re enamoured by what’s surrounding you, especially the river near our house. I think this was one of those ‘character building’ moments, which is why I remember it so well.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hi, I’m Tim Bunting AKA the Kiwi Yamabushi, a New Zealander who became a Yamabushi Ascetic in the Dewa Sanzan mountains of north Japan. I’m part of the Yamabushido team, and we host life-altering Yamabushi training on the Dewa Sanzan (website link). People come to us for the ultimate mindfulness experience, to reach the next level, or simply connect with nature and themselves.
I’m on a mission to summit all 100 Famous Mountains of Yamagata Prefecture to spread the splendour of this fabulous location, and in dedication to all those who lost their lives out in nature, including my father.
On my daily blog I post thoughts of a practicing Yamabushi that I hope people can use to better themselves and live as fulfilling a life as possible.
