Do it differently, do it well

Do it differently, do it well. This is the key to success in any endeavour.

To be able to beat the best, to be able to be the best, you need to do things differently than the rest. Experimentation is key, but also backing yourself and having the confidence to get through the tough challenges this brings up.

Doing things differently alone is not enough, however. To be the best at it, you have to do it well. This too requires experiment, but here experience is also key factor.

How do you experiment? How do you build experience? Put the hours in! This is the sure-fire way. Anything else relies too much on luck, which is unreliable at best.
