Self-guided learning

The importance of self-guided learning just increased ten-fold. Well, not just, but since we've all had to start working online, being able to put the onus of education on the learner has increased in value exponentially. This also means the trust we place in our students to do right by them has also increased in importance. That's the stance I take when teaching, that I trust the students to do right by themselves, to know what is best for them, but of course there are cracks.

We need to collectively give students the ability to think that what we are doing is for their best interests. That is not happening at the moment, and that’s why it’s easy for them to lose focus, and in some cases not show up to class. This means that we need to make sure the classes are in fact in their best interests as well.
