Versatility in the 21st Century

It's not survival of the strongest, it's survival of the fittest. Fit meaning the ability to fit into a forever changing environment. In other words, the greater your ability to adapt to changing environments, the higher your chance of survival. The current environment, with Covid-19 running rampant, is terrible for people in certain vocations. I have a lot to say about the over-generalist nature of the Japanese public servant, but in situations that change unpredictably at a fast pace, I can see why you would want to be in that position. Even better would be to be a generalist, but with a few (contrasting if possible) specialisations from which to build income. That gives you versatility, and increases your chances of survival in such volatile times.
