Wine for my dad, coffee for me

My dad was a huge fan of wine, but I wouldn’t exactly call him classy. His logic? Even the cheap wines can compete in flavour with the more expensive ones. I wouldn’t call him classy simply because he wouldn’t go for the more expensive kind, and that’s perfectly fine. Well, I guess he was classy in that he didn’t drink the really cheap stuff.

I’m the same with coffee. I can’t stand instant coffee, unless it’s an emergency and it’s packed with sugar and milk to hide the bad taste. I drink coffee every day with beans that I grind and pour over myself. I see it as a form of meditation, actually, but when it comes to beans, I go for the mid range as well, which I define as around 500-900yen for 100 grams.

The cheap stuff is the same as instant in my eyes, and the more expensive stuff is a bit of a rip off if you ask me. My logic behind this is that this is more expensive than the stuff the best person in the business, Mr. Kadowaki from Coffea, I know of makes. Anything more than that is pulling your leg, though to be honest I haven’t had much that would be more expensive than that.

Either way, I think it’s important to have something that you enjoy that isn’t too expensive, but that you still allow yourself to splurge on, so to speak. As with most things in life, it’s about balance.
