Is it tough because it’s tough? Or is it tough because you’re comparing yourself to others?

This is a question I sometimes ask myself. Of course if something is tough because it’s tough, then you just need to get on with it. However, sometimes it’s our expectations of ourselves or others that is the tough part. Sometimes it’s because we’re comparing our situation to others that we are finding things tough.

In those situations the answer is obvious. Forget about it. They don’t have the same experience as you, they don’t know what you know, and they certainly don’t understand what it feels like. And that’s fine. But all this is to say that comparing with others is a waste of time. Best to put your head down and get on with what you’re doing, not with what others think.
