Uketamo: untellable wisdom from the mountains

Uketamo, I accept.

Wisdom that is untellable cannot be understood from the spoken word. It cannot be understood through writing or reading. Untellable wisdom is the kind that can only be experienced with your body. It can only be attained through truly putting yourself to the test out in nature, as has been done for centuries on the Dewa Sanzan mountains in north Japan.

One such piece of wisdom is Uketamo, the lifeblood of Dewa Sanzan Yamabushi.

As Master Hoshino says, Uketamo is both the study and the philosophy of putting yourself in nature, sensing, then reflecting on what you sense. It is the practice of observing how you react to nature, and learning how nature is indeed reassuring, much like the mother it represents.

Untellable wisdom with profound implications. Uketamo.
