We’re only temporary

Tim Bunting AKA Kiwi Yamabushi on Zao-san

We only exist on this earth for a finite amount of time

I would give anything to hear the voice of my father. I would give anything to have his wisdom instilled in my daily decisions. Since he’s gone, life has gotten a whole lot more complicated. It would be great to have some advice on how to proceed.

But I am perfectly aware that advice is not coming. I am perfectly aware that I have to be the one to either find the advice somewhere else, or make it up myself.

And that’s fine. That’s life. That’s what it means to live in this world.

We are only temporary. Not only us, but the ones we love too. The ones we turn to for advice, for example.

So if we had the ability to distill all the things we’ve learned over the years into consumable lessons or what have you, don’t you think we should do it? Don’t you think it would be great to hear from the advice of your ancestors? I certainly do.

And that’s where tradition comes in. That’s why we do the things we always do. Of course if these things become irrelevant it’s ok to change them up a bit. That’s how worthy traditions survive the test of time.

The love of the ancestors is there in our traditions, in our culture, in our identities. And the best, positive, parts you find, you do your darnedest to pass them down. We are only here temporarily, after all.
